Previous U10 match reports:

Clee Town v Broughton, Sunday, October 18th

Result: 5-1

Another good cup win.

We started very well, with some good passing football. We scored two goals in the first five minutes and a third before half time. But Clee Town came back strongly to bring the score back to 3-1 before the break and only determined defending and good goalkeeping by Olivia in the first half and Jodie in the second kept us two goals in front.

Towards the end of the second half we got our fourth goal and the game was effectively over from that point. We added a fifth ten minutes before the end to complete the scoring.

Goals: Chloe H (2), Leah, Lauren and Jodie.

Player of the match: Chloe J.

Broughton v Westcliffe, Sunday, October 11th

Result: 2-0

The Ravers had to battle hard to overcome Westcliffe in this cup tie.

Westcliffe had the advantage of the slope and the wind behind them in the first half but we were very strong, tackling and blocking them whenever they came forward.

Lauren and Chloe Batty were outstanding in defence and the whole of the Ravers team played some very tough football. Macey put us ahead after 15 minutes with an excellent goal and we went in at half time 1-0 up.

We were dominant in the second half with Leah, Macey and Jodie coming close to increasing our lead in the first few minutes before Leah tapped one in from close range to put us 2-0 ahead. Westcliffe never looked like coming back from that.

Macey did a good job marking their main threat and the whole team played well, passing and tackling very strongly.

We were determined that we would win today. A very good performance.

Broughton v Barton Juniors, Sunday, October 4th

Result: 4-3

This was a tough friendly against a good Barton side.

The vistitors opened the scoring after 15 minutes but Chloe Hopkinson brought us level before the break with the first of her three goals. In the second half we could have scored ten but were denied again and again by some desperate last minute defending, the post and their excellent goalkeeper. At the other end of the pitch, Olivia had another good game in goal and made one very brave save that resulted in her having to go off with an injury to her eye.

As the second half went on, the game became very open and we played some good attacking football. One of the highlights was a fine individual run by Macey that ended with a shot against the post. It surely would have been the goal of the season so far if it had gone in! With about ten minutes to go the score was 3-2 to Barton. Chloe brought us level with a well taken goal and in the final couple of minutes Ami slotted in the winner.

Broughton v Bottesford, Sunday, September 27th

Result: 10-0

The Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph watched this game and it will feature as their ‘game of the week’ in next Tuesday’s paper. They saw the Ravers outplay a new Bottesford team who tried hard but really couldn’t cope with the greater experience of our girls.

Jodie set the tone for the match with a fine solo goal after just 30 seconds. She soon added another four to bring her season tally to ten from just two games. Chloe Hopkinson hit the net three times and Ami added another two. Olivia played in goal. She didn’t touch the ball in the first half at all and touched it just three times in the second.  Afterwards she said she would like to play in goal every week!

The team played some good passing football, especially in the second half and I was pleased with the performance overall. Most players even managed to remember where they were supposed to be playing for a change!

Broughton v Clee Town, Sunday, September 20th

Result: 6-2

A good all round performance from the girls resulted in a comfortable win against Clee Town.

Good, tough defending in the first half meant that Ami only had one shot to save and at the other end we took our chances well. I was especially pleased to see how keen the forwards were to intercept Clee’s goal kicks and take a shot when they had the opportunity.

In the second half we made a few changes – it was nice to see Rhiannan volunteer to go in goal and have a good game – but the final result was never in doubt. Jodie scored five goals (including one excellent lob over the goalkeeper) and Chloe Hopkinson slotted in the sixth.

Player of the match: Jodie.

Westcliffe v Broughton, Sunday, September 13th

Result: 1-5

We were outplayed and outfought by an average Westcliffe team. There were a couple of positives: the efforts of the goalkeepers – Chloe Hopkinson and Danielle – plus Lauren’s defensive work against the big Westcliffe girl who was their only real threat. I need to work with the rest of the team to improve their tackling, passing and work rate.

Player of the match: Lauren.

Broughton v Solar, Tuesday, September 8th

Result: 3-3

This was a tough game against a good Solar team. We started a bit slowly (as usual!) and conceded the first goal after about ten minutes. But Ami soon brought us level and we went in 1-1 at half time. We picked up the pace a bit in the second half and could have scored many times only to be denied by the posts and their excellent goalkeeper.

Then we were hit by two unfortunate goals. The first happened when our players stopped following an injury to an opponent in front of our goal and the second was a penalty. In between these, Macey scored to keep us in the game. To the girls credit, they came back well after the penalty and Chloe Hopkinson brought us level again in the last couple of minutes.

An eventful game!

Player of the match: Danielle.
