The girls had to wait until midday to kick off in their second league cup final on Sunday…but it was worth the wait.
There were no nerves among the Broughton players (well, not many anyway!), they soon settled into the match and Solar were under pressure from the first whistle.
Alex, Hannah and Lauren were on top form. They stopped the very few Solar attacks with some tough, determined tackling, their positional sense was good and they gave our midfield some some nice through balls to run onto. Macey, Leah and Jodie passed the ball between themselves confidently and up front Chloe H was a constant threat to the Grimsby team’s defence.
In goal, Danielle hardly touched the ball but what she did, she did well.
Most of the first half was played in front of the Solar goal and it wasn’t surprising when Chloe scored the first of her memorable cup final hat-trick. Hot Shot scored her second a few minutes before half time and we went into break 2-0 up.
The half time interval was spent smiling, chatting and eating Haribos – the girls were clearly enjoying the occasion and they couldn’t wait for the second half to begin.
In the second half, Lucy and Rhiannan joined in the fun, Chloe completed her hat trick, Macey scored a lovely goal and Leah topped off a fine performance with a goal of her own.
The whole team were on top form today. They treated the big crowd to some confident, flowing football and were worthy winners.
