The wet and windy weather at Bottesford today didn’t stop the Ravers playing some of the most relaxed and confident football I’ve seen them play for a long time.
Alex had to withdraw due to a foot injury before kick-off and Olivia went in goal.
Lauren won the toss and chose to play up the hill and into the wind. It was obviously a good decision as we were on top of the game from the beginning and it wasn’t long before Macey opened the scoring with a shot from close range.
Jodie, playing out wide on the left of midfield, always looked a threat and I wasn’t surprised when she thumped in one of her famous screamers from twenty yards out.
The girls kept the pressure up. Nearly every Bottesford goalkick was intercepted by our midfield players and we had a lot of shots. Most went straight at their ‘keeper but she couldn’t keep them all out. Hannah, with two well taken goals, and Rhiannan made it 5-0 to the Ravers at the break.
In the second half the girls took their foot off the gas a bit but I was impressed by mature and confident they knocked the ball about. When Bottesford had the ball we tackled hard and when we had the ball we attacked quickly and in numbers; the Ravers player on the ball was always looking for someone to pass to and there was some good runs into space.
Lauren made some powerful runs at the Bottesford back line and her efforts paid off with two second half goals. One just crept over the line and the second hit the back of the net very hard!
We didn’t look like conceding a goal at any point in the game and whenever we got the ball we looked as though we would score. We just need to work on shooting harder and faster and giving the player on the ball a bit more support, especially from behind.
A very good performance, well done :)
