Player of the Match: Macey

———————-

The girls went to Normanby Hall today with just seven players and two of those weren’t feeling well.

But you wouldn’t have known it. The Ravers dominated the game for long periods, played some nice passing football, tackled hard, supported each other well and basically worked their socks off!

Macey opened the scoring with a great goal midway through the first half and thanks to a superb save from Alex plus Hannah, Lauren and Lucy’s hard work in defence we went in at half time 1-0 up.

In the second half we had several chances to add to our lead. Leah, Rhiannan and Macey came close and their ‘keeper pulled off some good saves.

As the game went on, we were clearly on top and Alex didn’t have a lot to do. It seemed like the match would finish 1-0.  But in time added on, Burton brought the scores level.

There wasn’t enough time for us to score again (although the girls did try) and we ended up sharing the points with an impressive Burton team.

Positives: the Ravers played some of the best and toughest football I’ve ever seen them play. On that performance, we will definitely be challenging for the league title in April.

Negatives: nothing to do with the football – it was a great match closely fought by two good teams – but as you know, I had to have meetings with Burton’s management before and after the game to dispel some rather nasty untruths that have been spread about me and the team. It’s such a shame when this sort of thing happens. But Burton’s management now know the truth and we need to put it behind us and focus on the only thing that really matters – the girls and their football.
