The girls booked their place in the SHLL cup final by overcoming a tough and determined Westcliff team today.

The Westcliff pitch was wet, bumpy and it was difficult for the Ravers team to string many passes together. But they worked hard for each other and deserved their win.

We could have been two or three goals ahead in the first ten minutes. Chloe had a couple of good shots saved by the Westcliff ‘keeper and Jodie came close too. But it was left to Leah to poke the ball into the Westcliff net during a goalmouth scramble after about twenty minutes.

At half time it was 1-0.

In the second half Westcliff had the wind behind them and looked to one of their main players to win the ball and shoot hard from distance. But Lauren and Hannah were up to the task and stopped nearly all of the Westcliff attacks. On the one occasion they did break through, Alex pulled off a great save to keep us in the lead.

It was a good performance. The girls did what they had to do to win the match and they never really looked like losing once Leah had put us in front. But it was a bit too close for comfort. A little more ‘toughness’ in the tackle would be useful as would being a bit more determined to get the ball into the back of the net when the chances come along.
