Southend manor 1 v 1 West Ham Ladies
In conditions that you could only describe as terrible, West Ham and Southend Manor really entertained a soaked crowd in a game that was a real good advert for ladies football. from the start both teams produced lovely free flowing football and both defences were strong and well organized. West Ham were finding it hard to break down a excellent center back pairing who you could have have played together for years. Chances were at a minimum and this was due to both teams putting in everything they have into the game both offensive and defensive. Half time so five changes from Luke Berry and one of the changes Lillie Kershaw brought the first goal with around ten mins to go. Kershaw got the ball about twenty five yards out of goal and curled the ball in the top right corner with what has to be a goal of the season contender. Southend pilled on the pressure after the goal but West Hams defence stood strong and it was only after what the West Ham ladies saw as a foul throw and the Southend girl just hit the ball up in the air and unlucky for keeper Charlie Stephens it landed in the back of the net via hitting the post. A very entertaining game in terrible conditions but the point puts West Ham top of the league.
“What a game to watch. Both teams were class today and I am really proud to have been a part of that game. My girls battled for everything today and never gave up on the way that they want to play football. From back to front and the subs everyone put the effort in today. We could have won it with a couple of chances that were missed and with a Southend Manor saving a few great chances. Overall i am very happy. I am glad Lillie scored that goal because i told her before the game that I had a feeling that she will produce something special today. Charlie was great in goal and was unlucky with the goal. Defence was a solid rock again and this is lead well I feel by Sam Mitchell in the center of the three. Sian Horrigan was brilliant again, Sian has the energy to get up and down the pitch all game long. She was excellent today. The midfield were playing some lovely football in not the best of conditions and the forward line were outstanding against a well oiled Soithend Manor defence. Every member of the squad had a say in the game today and not one member let themselves down. We have work to do at training but effort wise I was proud of the girls today.” Luke Berry said after the game yesterday
