Sunday 21st April 2013

Team: Louise, Alex, Lauren, Phoebe, Macey, Katie P, Chloe H, Jodie, Hollie, Leah

Result: Won 4 – 1

Scorers: Katie P (3), Macey

Broughton Ravers won their second trophy of the season with a gritty, determined performance against a very good Lincoln Griffins team. Both teams tried hard to play football but with a bobbly pitch, a breeze strong enough to make a difference and a big slope on the pitch, it wasn’t always easy.

Lincoln Griffins, with the wind at their backs, started the game strongly and went ahead within 2 minutes. The girls found themselves on the back foot for a while and only a brilliant save by Louise prevented Lincoln going 2 – 0 up.

Gradually, Ravers started to get back into the game but despite more possession and a number of dangerous corners from Jodie, they couldn’t get back on level terms. Then another dangerous corner caused chaos in the Lincoln penalty area before Macey bundled home from close range 4 minutes before half time. With the equalising goal came a big rise in the girls confidence.

Right from kick off in the second half Broughton looked a better side. They were winning more tackles, passing the ball better and looking more dangerous all round. In midfield Macey covered every blade of grass, Phoebe caused panic every time she got the ball and ran at the Lincoln defence, Jodie’s trickery threatened to create chances all of the time and Katie’s passing ability always threatened to open up the Lincoln defence, though it was ultimately Katie’s shooting ability that turned the game in Broughton’s favour. While up front Chloe worked hard and put the Lincoln defence under pressure whenever they got the ball.

Within minutes of the second half starting, Chloe made a great run through, getting clear of the Lincoln defence before unleashing a trademark thunderbolt shot which smashed against the bar before being cleared.

The respite for Lincoln was only short lived however as Katie chased a pass over the top before calmy lifting the ball over the advancing keeper after 39 minutes. However, if the girls thought it was plain sailing from there they were given a reminder of what a good team Lincoln are as they broke down the wing and delivered a dangerous cross that Louise bravely threw herself at just as the Lincoln forward connected with the ball.

A tense period followed but the girls held the upper hand and looked dangerous going forward, while at the back, a poorly Lauren (who did well to play as long as she did), Hollie, Alex and Leah all defended really well, winning tackle after tackle and heading everything they had to.

As the game approached the final 5 minutes Katie got her second and Ravers third goal to put some clear distance between the two teams. And then just 3 minutes later Katie grabbed her third goal to put Ravers 4 – 1 up and seal a great win.

What a fantastic way to finish an amazing season. The girls played 23 games in all competitions and won them all. Absolutely brilliant.

Result: Won 9 – 0

Scorers: Chloe H (2), Jodie (2), Katie P (2), Phoebe, Macey, Hollie

Player of the Match : Everybody!

WOW! What a performance.

The girls turned in possibly their best ever performance tonight, especially the first half. This performance had everything – goals galore (including a header from a corner!), passing, movement, hard work and tracking back – everything that was asked of the girls was done. Brilliant is the only way to describe the performance.

Whatever the girls had in their prematch drink certainly worked very quickly once the match kicked off. The first goal came after just 21 seconds and by the time they had played 5 minutes and 42 seconds, the girls were 4 – 0 up. Another 4 goals followed during the first half. The girls had the wind at their backs during the first half which helped but their second half performance was just as dominant kicking into the wind. Again they played some good football, worked hard and added another goal. They also stopped Solar scoring a goal while they kicked with the wind. An impressive achievement and tribute to the hard work the girls put in.

Well done that was brilliant girls, as has been the whole season. Played 20 games, won 20 games. The perfect record.

Player of the match: Phoebe

After a very slow start, I think the proximity to a beach and the sunshine made the girls think they were on holiday!, the Ravers went on to dominate once they had scored their first goal.

Phoebe got the first goal and followed it up with two more for a well deserved hat-trick and Chloe H scored 2.

This was a hard working performance interspersed with some good football too. The girls looked dangerous down both wings and through the middle, creating a lot of first half chances.

Defensively the girls didn’t allow Cleethorpes to create any clear cut chances, allowing Louise a comfortable morning and a clean sheet.

That’s 19 wins out of 19 games so if the girls are on song when they play Solar on Thursday evening, it could be the perfect league record of 20 wins from 20 games.

Player of the match: Phoebe

Broughton Ravers became league champions for the fourth consecutive season with victory against Barton in both games of this double header.

The first half of the first game saw some of the best passing of the season from girls which helped them into a 4 – 0 lead in the first 16 minutes.

The first game finished 5 – 1 and this win confirmed the girls as champions.

The second game was much closer in the first half and it was only a second goal close to half time that allowed the girls some breathing space.

The second match finished 5 – 0.

Credit must be given to Barton who battled superbly in both games, making it difficult for the girls.

The girls achievement of winning the league 4 seasons running is a magnificent effort, yet they continue to view it as just a game of football. They clearly play because they love to, winning trophies is just a secondary consideration to them. Long may they continue to enjoy football so much, and long may the trophy count continue to rise.

Well done girls.

Saturday 2nd March 2013

Team: Louise, Alex, Holly, Lucy, Phoebe, Macey, Leah, Jodie, Chloe H, Lauren, Katie L, Katie P

Result: Won 1 – 0 (aet)

Scorers: Alex

Player of the match: Holly

From early on, this game looked like it would probably be decided by one goal. And so it proved. And satisfyingly, it was Ravers who got it. The girls can now look forward to their third cup final in 4 seasons.

Greenbank are a hardworking, physical team who are difficult to beat. Today was no exception. The girls though outworked and outfought their opponents throughout the game.

The first half saw Ravers start slowly but grow into the game, starting to dominate possession as the half wore on without creating any clear cut chances until close to half time, when Chloe broke clear and slid the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper, only to be flagged offside.

The second half continued in much the same vain as the first, Ravers dominating possession but starting to create more chances as the half wore on. Once again Ravers had the ball in the back of the net, only for the offside flag to again halt the celebrations. Try as they might though, the girls couldn’t quite make the breakthrough they deserved so the game went to extra time.

The first half of extra time passed without incident and the second half looked to be doing just the same until Jodie curled in a right wing corner that caused panic in the home defence before Alex tapped home the winner from a couple yards.

All of the girls worked really hard today.

Louise didn’t really have much to do save wise but looked comfortable throughout.

Alex, Lucy, Holly and Lauren looked solid all game in defence.

The midfield worked fantastically hard. The girls have been asked to work on their tracking back and closing down. Macey, Jodie, Katie P, Katie L, Leah and Phoebe all did this today, giving the defence some great support and helping to stop Greenbank creating any real chances.

And up front Chloe worked hard all game, though was a little isolated at times – we’ll work on getting her more support during the remaining games this season Dirk!.

Well done girls. Bring on the Final!!

Saturday 16th February 2013

Team: Louise, Alex, Holly, Lucy, Phoebe, Macey, Leah, Jodie, Chloe H, Chloe M, Katie L

Result: Won 4 – 2

Scorers: Phoebe, Chloe H, Jodie, Alex,

Player of the match: Lucy

Broughton Ravers U13 girls should be very proud of their performance and result today. Lincoln Griffins are the best team that girls have played this season but after a difficult first half defending the slope, they proved why they are top of the league with a fantastic second half performance that had some good football in it but saw the girls work harder than they have all season, tackling, heading and blocking everything.

For the second week running, Ravers were in front early on with Phoebe smashing home after 3 minutes from a difficult angle following a great, typical Phoebe run. The goal though was the catalyst for a sustained period of pressure from Lincoln that, in fairness to them lasted most of the first half.

In the 25th minute Lincoln equalised and then after 33 minutes they went 2-1 up, leaving a tough looking 2nd half on the cards. The girls however had different ideas and almost straight from kick off they equalised, Chloe H slotting a shot into the corner, sending the girls in level at the break.

The second half saw a role reversal, with Ravers being on top for long periods, though Lincoln always looked dangerous on the break. The way the girls tackled, chased and hassled the Lincoln players every time they had the ball was fantastic to see.

With 15 minutes remaining a Chloe H hotshot was too hard for the Lincoln keeper to hold and Jodie followed up to head home and put the Ravers in front. Lincoln could have equalised a couple of minutes later but Louise pulled off a great save and with 10 minutes to go Alex made the game safe, turning the loose ball home following a corner on the left.

The girls really should be proud of themselves because they have worked fantastically hard today, something that allowed them to get on top of and finally beat a good Lincoln team. Now, if only they could stop the manager shouting so much!

No game next week but training will be on Wednesday from now on, 7 til 8.

Sunday 10th February 2013

Team: Macey, Hollie, Phoebe, Katie P, Leah, Louise, Alex, Chloe H, Lucy, Jodie, Chloe M, Lauren

Result: 1 – 0

Scorers: Katie Pittard

Player of the match: Alex Harris

The girls battled hard against a good Bottesford team today and also against the elements, with the wind, rain and especially the cold having an effect on the game (and the girls)

The game was won in the 2nd minute when a corner from the right by Jodie was turned in by Katie Pittard.

For most of the game the girls worked very hard, limiting Bottesford to very few chances by closing them down and not allowing them the opportunity to test Louise.

Every player contributed towards this win and they should all be pleased with their efforts.

Louise looked comfortable with anything that came towards her.

At the back, Alex, Lauren, Holly and Lucy all won almost every tackle they had to make and got themselves in the way of any shooting opportunities Bottesford may have thought they had.

In midfield Katie P, Jodie, Macey, Phoebe, Chloe M and Leah all worked hard, both going forward and importantly, tracking back to help the defence.

And up front Chloe never stopped running.

Well done girls, you should all be pleased with your efforts today.

Result: 4 – 1 & 7 – 0

The girls played a double header against Long Bennington today and won both games. A bobbly, uneven pitch and stiff breeze meant conditions didn’t lend themselves to freeflowing football but the girls tried their best to keep the ball on the ground and pass to feet as much as the could.

The first game finished 4 – 1 with goals from Chloe H (2), Katie Pittard and Jodie.

The second game finished 7 – 0. Goals this time from Chloe H (2), Katie P (2), Leah (2) and Macey.

Thanks go to Louise and Alex for sharing goalkeeping duties.

Finally, a big thank you to Steve on behalf of all of the girls and parents for the monumental effort he has put in over almost 5 years of coaching the girls. Without Steve (who must have the patience of a Saint!) the girls would not be the team they are today. Thanks Steve.

Sunday 13 January 2013

Team: Macey, Hollie, Phoebe, Katie P, Leah, Louise, Alex, Chloe H, Lauren, Lucy, Katie L

Result: 3-0

Scorers: KT, Alex, Chloe

Player of the match: Lauren (for a commanding performance in the centre of defence)

This match was always going to be a bit of a battle. Greenbank are a skilful, tough team and our games against them have always been close.

And so it proved. Our girls had to withstand some strong physical challenges but not only did they do that, they played some very skilful and effective football.

All the goals were scored in the first half.

Chloe opened our account with a trademark swivel and shot that flew past the Greenbank ‘keeper.

On the half hour, Alex took a direct free kick about twenty-five yards out from the home team’s goal. I was about to suggest that a right footed player take the kick when she curled a lovely shot into the ‘postage stamp’ – the top right hand corner.

Two minutes later KT made it 3-0 and the game was effectively over.

Greenbank worked hard in the second half but they only got one shot on our goal in the whole match – for the last 15 minutes poor, freezing Louise had to released from her job as spectator so she could get her circulation going!

Everyone played their socks off today and the Ravers thoroughly deserved their win.

POM went to Lauren who was inspiring in defence and – together with Alex and the other defenders – completely neutralised the Greenbank attack.

Next week: Futsal at the Pods

Sunday 6 January 2013

Team: Louise, Lauren, Alex, Holly, Katie P, Macey, Leah, Lucy, Chloe H, Chloe M, Katie L, Jodie

Result: 4-1

Scorers: KT, Leah, Chloe H, OG

Player of the match: Alex

Ravers had to work hard for their victory against a tough tackling, hard working Park Tigers team.

Depsite having a lot of possession, the girls struggled to create too many golascoring opportunities, and when they did, they found the Park Tigers goalkeeper in excellent form.

The breakthrough game in the 25th minute. Excellent work by Katie P down the right saw her cross turned into her own goal by a Park Tigers defender. Unfortunately the girls reverted back to their Christmas holiday mode and 3 minutes later Park Tigers equalised with an excellent long range strike.

The 2nd half saw Ravers dominate possession again but more importantly they got their attitude right and worked much harder, resulting in some much better football.

The 2nd goal the girls needed came in the 47th minute. Leah picked up a loose ball on the halfway line and ran clear of the Park Tigers defence before coolly slotting the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper.

Goals 3 and 4 soon followed. Katie P calmly rounded the goalkeeper following some nice football between her and Chloe H, before the two combined nicely again with Chloe thumping home to complete the scoring.

Next match: Greenbank away on Sunday 13th

Sunday 16 December 2012

Team: Macey, Hollie, Phoebe, Katie P, Leah, Louise, Jodie, Alex, Chloe H, Chloe M, Lauren, Lucy, Katie L

Result: 2-1

Scorers: KT, Macey

Player of the match: Phoebe

The girls had to work hard to record their tenth consecutive win today.

Solar only had eight players but they were tough and obviously determined not to be ‘rolled over’ by the Ravers.

The home side opened the scoring after 8 minutes following a lovely flowing move that started with Lauren and finished with KT knocking the ball into the net with her left foot.

But three minutes later Solar made the score 1-1 when they converted a corner.

After that, the match became very open. The Ravers had several chances to regain the lead but the Solar ‘keeper was on top form and at half time it was still 1-1.

The second half followed much the same pattern. Broughton attacked and the Solar goalie saved the shot.

It wasn’t until eight minutes from the end of the game that Macey finally squeezed a shot into the bottom left corner of the Solar goal to make it 2-1.

It was a tough game to finish 2012…

But to get to the half way point of the season with thirty points from ten games is pretty good going and I’m looking forward to the New Year and the possibility of a fourth consecutive league title.

Happy Christmas :)

Next match: Park Tigers away on January 5th

Today was a game the girls were expected to win so they were asked to do some specific things during the game.

The girls were asked today to start quickly, get some early goals to make sure the game was won, play passing football and not shoot from silly distances and angles.

By the 21st minute the girls had gone 4 goals up, were passing the ball about and not shooting from silly places.

Katie P scored 6 goals today, Jodie 4 and Phoebe 1. The rest of the girls all played their part against a Park Tigers that, despite the score, put up a spirited display and created a few chances for themselves.

A special thank you to Lauren for volunteering to go in goal during the 2nd half – Lauren won’t have to do it again this season now!

The most pleasing aspect of todays game was the number of dangerous crosses put into the Park Tigers penalty area.

Well done for listen girls (at least I think they listened!) and well played.

Scorers: Jodie, Katie Pittard, Phoebe (3), Lauren, Chloe, OG (2)

The big news today was that the Co-operative Society have sponsored the girls to the tune of £2000!

Gary made the application (thanks Gary!) but even he was surprised by the generosity of the Co-op. The girls will get new rain jackets as soon as it can be arranged. The rest of the money will be spent on, well, other things :)

The game today was a good workout for the Ravers. Welton are a much improved team and they tackled well, worked hard and made our girls work for their win.

Jodie opened the scoring after twelve minutes. The visitors then put through their own goal twice to make it 3-0 just four minutes later.

Goals followed at fairly regular intervals after that.

Highlights were Chloe Meakin’s debut – she will definitely be a useful player very soon – and the debut of our new striker – Lauren!

Lauren scored a great goal and was unlucky not to hit the back of the net on several occasions. I’m sure that she will make a good strike partner for Chloe H.

Next week: Greenbank away on Saturday.
