On Friday 24th September at the Goals Centre in Wimbledon, the first Female Legends Tournament took place at this venue. With five teams participating on the night, this enabled all that took part the opportunity to play against different opposition and keep fit at the same time.
Funded by the Big Lottery, the scheme has been created to give women aged 25 years and over a chance to play in a pan-London football tournament and improve their soccer skills.
Another main focus of Female Legends Football is to use the sport of football as a mechanism to inspire women aged over 25 years to become more physically active and live a healthier lifestyle.
The tournaments are taking place on a monthly to five weekly basis and there are venues across London. The next Wimbledon one will take place on the 22nd October, so there is still time to sign up. Each five-a-side tournament is FA affiliated, and will be refereed by fully qualified referees. There will be no cost for teams to enter and the tournaments will be played in a fun and friendly environment.
