Hammers come back in style

West Ham 4 v 2 Cambridge City

With a week of league duty West Ham invited Cambridge to Flanders for a game which West Ham lost early in they pre season campaign. With 15 of the squad with Luke Berry on Sunday Luke Berry knew that he had the talent to put a decent performance in.With Charlie in goal and a defence of Keegan Russell, Sam Mitchell and Sian Horrigan the defence were solid as a rock. The girls are really getting use to the system and the way that they cover and move across the pitch. The defence are also becoming a vital part of the attack as the three girls who started and Lauren Beard also join in with attacks and sometimes even start the fight forward as was shown on the second half where Sian Horrigan who again had a great game took on player after player and then wiped in a great cross in that was narrowly missed the on rushing forwards.
The midfield is becoming a strong unit whoever plays there. Yesterday West Ham had Claire Huggins on the right, Eliz Ibrahim on the left and Nicole Learner, Naomi Hayes and Sophie McClean as the midfield three and the unit work tireless in keeping the ball and playing the game in the right way and that was shown in Sophie McClean goal where Nicole Learner who was brilliant yesterday played a through ball pass the defence where Sophie placed the ball pass the keeper. The midfield are a force to be reckoned with and in the second half the midfield of Megan Lewis on the left, Claire Huggins on the right and Jess Finch, Eliz Ibrahim and Keegan Russell worked just as hard and produced some great football and moves of they own. The forwards are really working hard up top to keep the ball and create chances. The first half started with Ella Potter and Dannielle Robertson and the pair worked really hard together and created chance after chance and were unlucky not score. Ella Potter works very hard up front and is very unselfish with her play. She is always trying to create chances for her teammates and sometimes she could go herself. She is real talent and is going to go far in her football but the one thing is her head goes down, if she can overcome this then she will go far. Dannielle Robertson bagged a hat trick and all the goals were great finishes and her running off the ball makes her such a pain for defenders. She scored a great goal with her left foot which was superb but I would say that her best goal was her last one where great battling from captain Faye Cook regained the ball and Claie Huggins slotted a brilliant into the path of Dannielle to slotted the ball under the Cambridge keeper.
I must mention Faye Cook as she turned the tempo of the game with her non stop work rate and tough tackling. A true captains example.
“I was very happy with the girls today and the way we battled back from two down and the way we kept the ball and made Cambridge work. Every department was brilliant today. Dannielle took her goals well, Cookie showed today why she is captain. Naomi, Nicole and sophie were pure class in the middle and the defence were out of this world, Sam Mitchell and Sian Horrigan are playing some great football and really catching the eye. Cambridge are a brilliant side and to get a win over them is a big achievement in our progress. Back to the league next week and things are looking up and I just hope we keep it going.” Luke Berry said after the game.
