In case some of you didn’t know or have been away over the last week, we were playing in the League Cup final against Everton last Thursday, and we won!
The girls and all associated with Leeds Carnegie including myself, pictured with the cup, are all over the moon.
This is something we have all worked so hard for and to actually have a winner’s medal in my grasp is an amazing feeling and just makes me want more.
The game started very brightly for us and we dominated the first half scoring two goals from Ellen White and Kate Holtham, it could even have been five.
We went into the changing rooms very pleased with our first-half performance but knowing full well that Everton would come back twice as strong as their team is full of international players.
Not only do they have great experience but the ability to change a game.
Thankfully, our defence were up to the challenge and they all played exceptionally well and the game finished 3-1.
When the final whistle went we all went mad and couldn’t quite believe what we had achieved.
I went over to hug my mum and had a little happy cry and I realised that all the hard work was worth it after a night like that.
I really want to thank all the fans that travelled over to support us including all the media in Leeds that have followed us all the way through (especially the YEP) – and they didn’t pay me to say that!
Our assistant manager Colin Walker who has helped Rick Passmoor out throughout the season has been fantastic and has helped us get better as a team. His shouting and press-ups have obviously worked.
It was also nice to win something for Rick. He has to put up with a lot trying to handle 18 women, but he is definitely one of the best managers I have ever had (and yes, he did pay me to say that).
It just shows how far we have come as straight after the game we were looking ahead to our game on Sunday, saying we need to get a result as we want to do as well as we can in the league. And we did just that, beating Watford 6-0. That was a fantastic result as it could have been a potential banana skin.
We now have a massive match tonight as we play Everton again, but this time in the league. This could potentially be one of our biggest games of the season if we want to finish top of the league. They will want revenge but we want to continue winning because it feels good.
Next time you hear from me I will hopefully be in sunny Cyprus playing in the Cyprus Cup. England’s schedule includes games against South Africa, Canada and Switzerland and then a play-off game. We won this tournament last year so we have high expectations to do the same again.
No pressure then!
