BILLERICAY TOWN 0 ENFIELD TOWN 5
Holders Enfield Town progressed to the semi final of the Isthmian women’s cup with 5-0 victory away to Eastern Southern Division Billericay Town. Fran Boggi gave Enfield a first half lead before Sara Sinclair stepped off the subs bench to hit four goals. Enfield Town manager John Abbott said “It’s good to get back to winning ways and the whole team seemed to have been lifted by it, it was a good run out against a team that showed a lot of commitment and gave us a good game.” The draw for the semi final is still to take place.
Enfield started on the attack as Fran Boggi went into the area with the ball and turned back before shooting at Hollie Dimambro in the home goal, Emma Thomas split the defence with a pass to Boggi but Dimambro was quickly out to block, Thomas won the ball in midfield and powered on to draw the keeper out and then lay the ball to a team mate but Dimambro managed to grab it, Claire Gooch headed a corner narrowly wide and then Sheree Oliver sent Thomas away to the line where Thomas cut back in and fired a shot that Dimambro did well to save. Rebecca Laporte slid a pass to the overlapping Melissa De La Fuente who cut in and picked out Nicola Carty who shot against a defender.
Billericay came into the game after 20 minutes and Sarah Bovington pounced on a loose ball and fired in a long range effort that skipped to Jo Ayre with out troubling the keeper and a couple of minutes later with the ball bouncing around the Enfield area Beth Demery’s clearance cannoned of the head of Kiran Hare and knocked her off her feet. Enfield thought they had opened the scoring when Boggi crossed to the near post where Laporte got a touch and claimed the goal as a defender and Dimambro cleared the ball and with the keeper laying injured Carty saw a follow up shot bravely blocked on the line by a defender. Laporte won the ball in the middle and fed Thomas who crossed to the centre as two Enfield players ran in and although Carty failed to connect, Boggi managed to stop and control the ball from behind her and knock it into the vacant net. 0-1 (28 min)
Carty left the defence trailing and fired just past the far post, Oliver volleyed a ball across the area into the path of Thomas who hit it over the bar and centre back Gooch appeared on the right wing to set up Boggi but a great tackle by Bovington stopped her doubling the lead. Boggi had the last two efforts of the half as first Oliver laid a Laporte cross back to her and then she created an opportunity herself but both times she failed to hit the target.
Enfield carried on after the break as they had ended the first half as Leanne Mabey played in De La Fuente whose cross was behind Boggi but Carty was lurking a little further out but steered the ball wide. Laporte chipped a pass back from the line and Carty was again well placed and hit a sweet shot through a crowd of players towards Dimambro who elected to kick it away. Thomas set up a one on one for Carty but Carty’s poor luck continued as she appeared to have done everything right but the ball still went just wide of the post.
Carty was replaced by Sara Sinclair but the luck didn’t seem to change immediately as Sinclair snatched at a shot that went wide and then just 4 minutes after coming on Sinclair was presented with a great chance by a Boggi cross that beat the defence and Sinclair calmly helped the ball back across the keeper and inside the far post. 0-2 (57 min)
Boggi looked to be in on goal only for Bovington to stretch and get in another good tackle. Mabey flip a pass over the defence to Sinclair but a desperate tackle cleared the ball as she turned to shoot. Boggi slipped a pass through the defence and Sinclair raced on to lift the ball over the stranded keeper to increase the advantage. 0-3 (67 min)
Ayre almost gave away a goal with a dodgy clearance of a back pass that put Kelly Hughes into trouble but Kerry Oldham shot wide after winning the ball. Mabey tried a shot from distance that seemed to be an easy catch for the keeper but it dipped at the last moment and Dimambro kicked it away to Sinclair who shot wide. Boggi again powered on and a defender did well to stretch and concede a corner but it was only a temporary reprieve as Sinclair knocked in Kerrie Marlborough’s corner kick from close in. 0-4 (81 min)
Sinclair rounded off the scoring by taking the ball around the keeper and tapping in after Laporte dissected the defence with a perfectly weighted pass into Sinclair’s path. 0-5 (88 min)
Enfield Town M.O.M. was Rebecca Laporte for a strong performance in midfield instead of her usual wide position.
