Plymouth Argyle reserve team captain, Vicki Fannon, is set to do a sponsored sky dive from 15,000 feet to raise money for the Pencarrow Intensive Brain Trauma Specialist ward in Derriford Hospital.
Last June, her older brother Kevin suffered an unprovoked and violent attack by a group of men whilst walking home from the pub. He was so badly beaten that he spent several weeks in a coma in the Pencarrow unit and Vicki was at his bedside for much of that time. To this day, her brother is suffering from memory loss and has no sense of smell as well as broken vertabrae in his spine. He was also robbed of personal property he had with him that evening.
22-year-old Vicki works as a student teacher at Saltash.net Community School, where she teaches geography, and studies at Marjons University College in Plymouth. She loves her football and is in her ninth season with Plymouth Argyle.
Vicki has never done anything remotely like this before, and said: “I want to raise some money to say a big thank you to all the staff in the Pencarrow unit for keeping my brother alive, because without their care and dedication I would have lost him.”
The jump will take place on Saturday 1st May at Pinhoe, Exeter (weather permitting). Vicki will have some basic training on the day and will be firmly tethered to her instructor fo the descent. She added: “I am looking forward immensely to the event , though on the day I expect to have butterflies in the tummy!”
Vicki is hoping to raise around £800 for the Pencarrow unit.
