West Midlands League Cup Final
Sunday 25th April 2010
Solihull Ladies FC v Worcester City FC
Solihull Ladies first team managed to overcome a strong Worcester City side in the West Midlands League Cup Final. Winning 1-0, the match was a tale of two halves…
Solihull came at Worcester in the first half, creating chances and retaining possession all over the pitch. A goal by Solihull’s top goalscorer, Mel Pugh, settled the team into their rhythm and they possibly should have gone on to score one more in the first half.
Worcester came out battling in the second half, taking the game to Solihull, piling lots of pressure on the defence and pushing players further and further forward. Worcester created few chances, but they were snuffed out by an excellent defensive performance from the Solihull team.
A torrential downpour made playing conditions very difficult in the last 20 minutes, but Solihull managed to hang on to claim victory in a tense, hard fought match.
Claiming the trophy and medals in a downpour, Solihull celebrated by throwing champagne everywhere – mysteriously both Manager, Sarah Carney, and Coach, Dave Hayward, had disappeared when the Champagne was opened……
A proud moment for the Club, and one that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations Ladies!!
