Broughton Ravers v Clee Town – cup final

Sunday, April 18th 2010

Result 1-2

Team: Chloe H, Leah, Rhiannan, Lauren, Danielle, Ami, Olivia, Macey, Chloe B, Jodie, Elizabeth

Goalscorers: Jodie

The Ravers team had most of the possession and were clearly the better team in todays SHLL U10 cup final but could not convert their superiority into a win.

We started strongly and played most of the first period inside Clee Town’s half but every shot we had hit their goalkeeper or went just wide of the post.

Midway through the first half Clee Town had one attack and scored.

At half time the Ravers team were, understandably, a little disheartened. But they picked themselves up and were very strong in the second half. But still the goals wouldn’t come and, against the run of play, Clee Town scored again.

With four minutes to go we finally managed to reduce the deficit when Jodie tapped in from close range. But sadly the referee blew up for full time just 30 seconds later and we finished runners up.

All the players on the pitch tried their hardest today and as a manager I can’t ask for more than that.

So sadly we didn’t win the cup. But….we have played twenty-one games this season and lost just three. The girls have won the league and reached a cup final in what was, in effect, their first season as U10s and scored 79 goals in the process. We conceded just 18, which makes our attack and defence the best in the league by a long way.

We also have two of the three top goalscorers in the league – Jodie and Chloe H have scored 17 each – and Chloe H has also scored 12 in the cup competition.

So this season has been a big success. The girls have played some beautiful football and – more importantly – they have played with a smile on their faces. We have the best defence, midfield and attackers I have ever seen in a team of U10s and there is no doubt in my mind that this Ravers team will enjoy a lot more success in the future.

And we had a great party in the Dog and Rat after the game!
