Player of the match: Lauren (for a commanding performance in the centre of defence)
This match was always going to be a bit of a battle. Greenbank are a skilful, tough team and our games against them have always been close.
And so it proved. Our girls had to withstand some strong physical challenges but not only did they do that, they played some very skilful and effective football.
All the goals were scored in the first half.
Chloe opened our account with a trademark swivel and shot that flew past the Greenbank ‘keeper.
On the half hour, Alex took a direct free kick about twenty-five yards out from the home team’s goal. I was about to suggest that a right footed player take the kick when she curled a lovely shot into the ‘postage stamp’ – the top right hand corner.
Two minutes later KT made it 3-0 and the game was effectively over.
Greenbank worked hard in the second half but they only got one shot on our goal in the whole match – for the last 15 minutes poor, freezing Louise had to released from her job as spectator so she could get her circulation going!
Everyone played their socks off today and the Ravers thoroughly deserved their win.
POM went to Lauren who was inspiring in defence and – together with Alex and the other defenders – completely neutralised the Greenbank attack.
