Bumblebees v Lincoln Utd, Feb 25th 2023

Result: 1-2

Players: Ava, Lottie, Ellie, Martha, Jasmine, Summer, Gracie, Sophie G, Sophie S, Kiara, Kylie, Lila, Ayse,

Player of the match: Jasmine

Well, this was an exciting game!

The girls went 1-0 down midway through the first half to a skilful Lincoln team on a cold and windy February morning.

But they kept playing the only way they know how – 100% – and got their reward just before the break when Summer scored twice in a minute to give the girls a 2-1 lead.

The second half was nail biting stuff. The wind was behind the Lincoln team and they pressed hard for an equaliser. Our defence held firm! Gracie dropped back from midfield to make it a back four and there were standout performances from many players. Lots of last ditch tackles and interceptions. Ava made a brilliant save two minutes from the end and it was over.

A well deserved win.

Jasmine was player of the match for her sterling work in defence.

Player of the match: Ava

Great game today but no idea how we didn’t score!

It was the best I’ve seen the girls play. Great defence, tough tackling, strong midfield and powerful shots flying inches from the goal.

And some lovely passing moves that drew praise from the other team’s coach. The ref was impressed too. A very enjoyable game.

Ava deserved the Player of the Match for some brave saves.

Well played everyone.

Bumblebees v Dale Park, October 29th 2022 #2

Result: 1-6

Players: Ellie, Lily, Kiara, Summer, Kylie, Ayşe, Lila, Connie, Sophie G.

Player of the match: Sophie Grant

It was tough today, playing without any substitutes against an experienced team that had lots of subs!

In the end we lost 6-1 but we conceded two goals in the first 4 minutes (we hadn’t started!) and two goals in the last two minutes when our girls were understandably starting to run out of energy.

For most of the game the girls more than held their own. At half time it was 4-1.

There were lots of really good individual performances – everyone played their part to the full. But special mention has to go to the stand in goalkeepers – Summer and Ayse – who were outstanding.

Our defenders tackled hard, midfielders got stuck in and forwards were willing to have a shot. Nice to see players getting their heads up, looking for a pass and wanting the ball.

Summer scoring our goal was definitely a highlight!

And plenty of smiles on faces at the end 🙂League table

Bumblebees v Dale Park (friendly)

Result: 0-2

Players: Lydia, Ellie, Charlotte, Lottie, Lily, Kiara, Summer, Kylie, Ayşe, Lila, Connie, Gracie, Martha, Sophie G, Sophie S.

Player of the match: Lottie

I was really impressed with the way the girls played today.

Everyone played their socks off against a more experienced team that sits unbeaten at the top of the table.

Our three stand in goalkeepers (Summer, Ayse, Lila) were outstanding, our defenders understand their positions, tackle hard and aren’t afraid to try to play the ball out of defence. In fact there was really good ‘heads up’ passing going on in every part of the pitch.

Midfielders are tracking back to help the defenders and up front we gave the home defence plenty to think about.

And just as importantly, the game was played in a competitive but friendly way. There were lots of smiles on faces at the end!

Lottie won the Player of the Match award for the effort she put in, the way she positive way she tackled (scary hard) and how she read the game. But I could have picked anyone, to be honest.

We’re back there next Saturday. Looking forward to it!

Bumblebees v Cleethorpes Tillets, October 15th 2022

Result: 2-3

Players: Ava, Ellie, Evie, Lily, Kiara, Summer, Kylie, Ayşe, Lila, Connie, Gracie, Martha, Sophie G, Sophie S.

Scorers: Ayse (2)

Player of the match: Ayşe

The girls all turned up in their new training jackets. They looked very smart!New training jackets

The Cleethorpes team have played together for two years and it showed. They started fast, scoring after just 5 minutes.

But our girls weren’t worried and Ayşe struck back for the Bees just three minutes later with a well timed flick into the home team’s goal.

Two minutes later Cleethorpes went ahead again. It looked as though there was going to be a lot of goals but it stayed 2-1 to Cleethorpes until the break.

Ten minutes into the second half Cleethorpes went 3-1 up but our girls just kept running, passing and tackling. They got their reward after 50 minutes when Ayşe smashed an unstoppable shot past the home ‘keeper. Great goal 🙂

3-2 with ten minutes left. Game on…

Our girls tried hard to get an equaliser but the home team managed to hold on and looked quite relieved when the final whistle went.

There were many standout performances from the girls today. Ellie, Evie, Martha and Lily understand their roles and keep a good ‘shape’ on the pitch. The midfielders – Summer, Kylie, Gracie, Connie, Kiara, Sophie S and Sophie G – attack and defend and the forwards – Ayşe, Lila – always pose a threat. In goal, Ava was outstanding, drawing praise from the home team’s coach.

It’s looking very promising! League table

Bumblebees v Cleethorpes, October 8th 2022

Result: 3-0

Players: Ava, Ellie, Martha, Lottie, Gracie, Sophie G, Sophie S, Ayse, Connie, Kiara, Kylie, Lila, Lily, Summer

Scorers: Summer, Sophie Grant, Gracie

Player of the match: Summer

The girls dominated Cleethorpes in every part of the pitch and thoroughly deserved their first league win.

Despite having players in defence who don’t usually play there (well done Kylie!) our back line looked well organised and determined. They tackled hard and on the rare occasion that the home team broke through, Ava shot out of goal and cleared the ball upfield. In the second half Lottie hardly had a shot to save.

Our midfielders and attackers worked together from the start – there were lots of nice passes – and it wasn’t long before the Bumblebees’ first ever league goal was scored by Sophie Grant who unlucky not to score at least a couple more. She hit the post twice.

Our girls kept attacking and were awarded a penalty that Player of Match Summer smashed home. 2-0 in the 23rd minute.

Gracie rounded off the scoring with a well taken goal shortly before half time.

We didn’t add to the goal tally in the second half but we would have done if the girls had remembered how the offside rule works!

A great result. Every player contributed, well done!

Bumblebees v Barton, Sept 17th 2022

Result: 0-6

Players: Ava, Lottie, Evie, Ellie, Lily, Martha, Summer, Sophie G, Sophie S, Kiara, Kylie, Lila, Ayse

Player of the match: Kylie

The Bumblebees lost their first league match but there were, as they say, many ‘positives’.

Our girls did exceptionally well to hold a strong Barton team to 0-0 at half-time and were unlucky not be one or two goals up at the break.  It was obvious the home team were worried.

The second half began with Barton being awarded a direct free kick (for handball) just outside our penalty area. It was smashed into the back of net – Ava had no chance of stopping it – and from then on it was one way traffic. The Bumblebees defended valiantly but the Barton girls were strong and goals went in regularly.

In terms of hard work and ‘never say die’ attitude, it was a good start to the girls league campaign. Plenty to build on.
